Bugatti Celebrates 100 Years With Four Centenaire Specials At Villa d'Este!

Although decades have separated the modern Bugatti from its heritage, the Alsatian exotic marque is one that prides itself on its racing pedigree. So to bridge that gap and celebrate its 100th anniversary, Bugatti rolled in to the Villa d'Este auto show on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy, as promised, with a quartet of special edition Veyrons. Each of the four one-offs bares a different color to contrast with the chrome fenders, and each honors a different driver from Bugatti's glory days by taking their names. To more clearly emphasize the cars historical linkages, the four Veyrons arrived in Italy accompanied by matching historic Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix racers. These cars are AMAZING!!! =-]

Modular Refrigerator Of The Future

Designed by Angeline Meloche, student designer from University of New South Wales, the “Celsius” is a modular refrigerator that consists of full-extension drawers and pantry-style cabinets, and can be configured by the consumer, according to his or her desire. Each cabinet comes with a touch-sensitive control panel, allowing to select from 5 temperature settings for proper food storage. The design idea was to maximize space usage and usability, while maintaining the footprint of a conventional fridge. Celsius also offers custom inserts for fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, dairy, bottles and jars, pantry and wine as well as optional shelf space. Additional modules can be purchased to meet changing needs. This modular refrigerator offers professional food storage right at home and minimizes food wastage by separating foods while creating a hygienic and convenient storage environment. Double-glazed tinted doors, LCD screen, adjustable feet, recessed handle grooves and streamlined glass panels. Will Love to see manufacturers put this design into use. This would be a great seller for companies! I know I would buy one!

Helix Chair by Karmelina Martina for Moroso

Karmelina Martina has designed the Helix chair for the Italian manufacturer Moroso. Helix the snail got fed-up with the same old life in a kitchen garden, so one day she decided to leave and discover the wonders of the world. In choosing her direction she was guided by her instinct, the moon and the sun. As she was going through a wood one day, she got stuck between two tree roots. She struggled hard and long to free herself and at last, when she was almost completely exhausted, she succeeded. How strange, though…. All of a sudden, Helix had a funny feeling of lightness. She turned to look behind her and realized she had lost her home. And she felt completely naked! From that day on, Helix slides furtively into people’s homes and covers herself with the clothes she finds there. Every day a new outfit for a new life! This is a very beautiful contemporary chair! I Love It!

Australia’s Yellow Goat Design have added some new lighting designs to their growing collection...

As the name implies, it’s easy to get hooked on this gem. A truly versatile piece. Prickly can be made in any coloured acrylic, or even in metal finishes.
8 panels of 10mm thick clear acrylic slotted into each other to form a box. Each panel is individually sculptured with several curved frosted rebates which glow when lit by a 20 watt CFL globe or PL fluoro.

A collection of quirky shapes cut from almost any material, in this case 6mm thick glossy black acrylic, suspended from a ceiling plate to act as a screen / divider or a sculptural feature.

A 340 piece suspension of silver and black shapes hung under a mirror ceiling plate fitted with down-lights. Some of these quirky pieces are fitted with LED or bi-pin globes to create a dazzling display.

The Barrow House by Andrew Maynard Architects

Andrew Maynard Architects designed the Barrow house extension in Melbourne, Australia. The Barrow extension appears as an arrangement of timber boxes, each independently rotated and subjected to varying amounts of extruding and manipulating forces. These separate actions result in a variety of shapes, which united, create an interior of differing volumes and organizations, providing an interesting double story addition to this weatherboard house. The extension challenges the traditional nature of timber construction. Normally lightweight and fragile, added wall thickness to different areas results in a structure with a fluctuating sense of mass. The dynamic and varying nature of these environments is further enhanced by differing window arrangements and framing techniques. Everything in this house is perfect, except for the bathtub choice. That is the only thing I would change.

K-Nova Limited Edition Swarovski Wheelchair

Wheelchairs are not known for being attractive (few assistive devices are) but the K-Nova Limited Edition Swarovski Wheelchair is making a valiant effort at changing that perception. As the name would suggest, it's a wheelchair that comes with over 200 Swarovski crystals embedded in places like the frame, wheels, and backrest, plus besides being pretty the chair should also be comfy and functional as Kuschall prides itself on putting out high-quality and technically trendsetting chairs. The wheelchair is available in either black or red and is limited to an edition of only 444 worldwide.Hopefully people without disabilities don’t buy them just to be cool… LOL! I can picture people on the corner here in DC riding them for fun! HAHAHA!

Are Bleached Jeans In?

Nicole Richie, Gwen Stefani, and Fergie wearing bleached jeans.

Here’s another trend of the moment for you guys to debate. Ultra-distressed, bleach-stained jeans have been a hit ever since they showed up in the Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2008 collection, and the trend remains just as hot as ever.

So what do you think? Would you wear bleached jeans? What about tie-dyed bleached jeans? Do you think they can work in real life, or are they too much of an 80’s throwback for you?

Nike 6.0 Oncore High

The Nike 6.0 designers recently collaborated with the heavy metal band”3 Inches Of Blood” for their latest Oncore High. The band chose to use aged leather and metallic materials to implement a very dark theme based on the bands name. As a result, there are various shades of red throughout the upper as well as different textures such as smooth leather, suede, and patent leather. There’s even a splattered blood pattern on the midsole, a bloody red tongue, and the words “3 Inches of Blood” stitching on the heel. The “3 Inches of Blood” Nike 6.0 Oncore High is slated to release at select Nike retailers as a quickstrike release on May 1st, 2009. Only 200 pairs will be made.
